What an amazing day! Took off South from Oshidomari along the purpose built, paved cycle way. Wound along through lush forest over bridges 130 metres above the forest. Views of Rishiri-Fuji and the coast along the way. Stopped off at Lake Himenuma which we walked around (about 1 km), Elsie singing "shoo snakes don't bother me" and running most of the way.
Wound our way down to the main road and stopped off at a small beach for a swim to cool off. A bit of a jig avoiding ants when we were getting changed but otherwise a lovely diversion.
Cruised along looking for a noodle house but nothing about even when we got to Oniwaki (some 25 kms from the start) at about 2.30pm they were all closed. So we grabbed some convenience food and found a picnic table at a "golf" course. The lady there was lovely and let us have a go for 100 yen (about $1.50). Mostly we weren't so great but I did get a rather miraculous hole in one.
Finally we cruised along another couple of kms to Nemaura camp ground. So hard to know what you're going to get with these campgrounds. This one is right by the road so not as scenic but it does have a stunning view of the mountain and everything else required (except a picnic table!). Plus it's free!
Really enjoyed a lovely warm day of sunshine for a change.
