Kate's Chronicles
Not a lot to report this week. I am gradually getting into a routine and working out when will be the best time to start my Chinese language lessons etc. Tuesdays and Thursdays are my teaching days and so off I go on our rather colourful school bus on those days. It takes about an hour to get to the other campus and I think what a great opportunity to read and relax......but at the moment I find myself busy watching the daily life of suburbia in Nanjing!! I know I'm getting close to the Uni when we get to this rather strange bright red sculpture which indicates the beginning of "Nanjing Jiangning College Town". It seems that all the universities and colleges have built or are building additional campuses out in this new suburb. All looks rather barren at the moment.
I still find it fascinating to 'people watch' as we drive along. Although yesterday I think our driver thought he was in a Formula One race!!! One corner he went around I'm sure the wheels lifted off the ground - some of the people on the bus screamed but it didn't seem to faze him in the least. Needless to say there were are a few sick looking people when we arrived on campus.....for me...well at least it woke me up!!
Had planned to do lots of sightseeing on the weekend but we ended up with a cold snap with temperatures dropping down to 4-6 during the day!!! Not my idea of fun weather to walk around in. Anyway I did go for a few kilometers and found where they sell all the cheap DVDs......I ended up getting 10 for about $12AUD so even if a few don't work its still cheap AND they are all in English!! While walking around I did find some Chinglish signs which bought a smile to my face so I've added the photos for you to share in the comic relief! With spring around the corner I figure I'll have lots of time to see all the sights in comfort not freezing my butt. There is so much to see and do here so I will be spoilt for choice.
Domestically I managed to flood my apartment on Sunday.......luckily I could mop all the water up before it spread to others or downstairs. Bloody washing machine outlet pipe that doesn't fit the drain!!! Well the domestic goddess has fixed it now......actually I'm not sure it will ever come apart again. So now you could eat off my apartment floor it is so damn clean.....Still no cooking so don't panic folks!!!
That's it for now so bye till next time. xx
