Munich is absolutely stunning!
We arrived here just before midday yesterday (Friday). We were awake at 4.30am, and leaving the hostel at 5.30am for our train to the airport. We slept on the flight, so that went quickly and were picked up from the airport by Kristen's aunty, Elvira. Her house is 7kms from the centre of munich, and takes about 8 minutes on the underground, which is a short walk from her home. Very convenient! We got settled and had an amazing Greek dish made by Elvira before setting off for the town centre. We walked around the centre, admiring the amazing buildings before finding the hofbrauhaus (I think that's how it's spelt) for a beer & pretzel. Delicious!
Back to Elvira's house for some well needed sleep in her amazingly comfortable bed!
I'm currently sitting back in that bed after another huge day. We had a traditional Bavarian breakfast in town- white sausage, pretzel and a sweet mustard- washed down with a mix of apple juice & soda water. We then set off for a sightseeing bus tour around Munich. We climbed to the top of the oldest church in Munich- St Peters church. 305 stairs up, the view was amazing. And 305 stairs back down. We explored a market, and bought cheese and bread for our picnic at the Olympic park. Stunning place! We sat there for a few hours before heading home. We sat on Elvira's balcony in the sun before having dinner, admiring her collection of jewellery and here we are back in bed!
Tomorrow is Elvira's birthday so we're heading to a lake for a fancy lunch!
Fun fact for the day: A May pole is put up on the first of May every year. They hand make the pole and put it up by hand too. Until the first of May someone has to guard the pole because other towns steal them, if another town steals it the only way to get it back is to buy the town a keg and drink with them.
