Happiness Is The Road
It had been raining on and off all night but by morning the rain was torrential and looked like it was set in for the day. The stream nearby which was a trickle yesterday was now a raging torrent. Luckily it was in a dip and unlikely to flood us out. We had intended to get the bus into the city after breakfast but decided to delay the journey for as long as we could in the hope that the rain would ease. We had to make a dash for the amenities block. We had one waterproof poncho between us and we both looked like right idiots wearing it. Jay could have sworn that one of the ducks looked at her and laughed hysterically when it saw her! By midday the rain had got much lighter and we made a dash for the bus stop which was luckily just outside the camp site entrance. We had topped up our Myki travel cards yesterday so we were good to go. Melbourne's transport system is not very traveller friendly. You cannot buy cash tickets any more even on buses. Yesterday we had to drive 5 kilometres to a shop ( the nearest one to the camp site and a 10k return trip) to top up our Myki's. We couldn't just get on the bus and pay which is completely ridiculous. Anyhow the bus turned up on time and we were away to the city again. The bus took just under an hour with much of the journey along the freeway. It's a good job that the bus was express to the city as the Greater Melbourne area is just huge. We were about 30 k's from the city and nowhere near the end of the suburban sprawl. We headed to the Victoria Market again hoping to get some sugar free chocolate that we saw last time. The stall wasn't there today and we were bitterly disappointed. We are both on completely sugar free diets now. This chocolate was perfect as it is sweetened with a natural coconut nectar. I managed to find a health food shop in the city later on that sold it but at a price! We had lunch again at the market. We bought the same as last time we were here, turkish bread with Hommus dip and some octopus and olives. It was yummy. The market though and general experience wasn't as good here as last time as the place today was just full of rude people pushing and elbowing and shoving! After lunch we had a walk down by the Yarra River and took in the great city sky line again. By now the rain had completely stopped and we could see blue sky again. We got the bus back at about 4 and chilled for the rest of the day. The raging torrent of earlier was now just a babbling brook!
