Happiness Is The Road
It had been an expensive night at Apollo Bay so it was onward to hopefully somewhere cheaper. When I came back from the shower this morning I found Jay with a chocolate Labrador sat next to her. He had just rocked up. He was really sweet. We left the camp site and first of all went to have a proper look around Apollo Bay. Everywhere was a lot quieter today which was good. We had breakfast next to the beach and then had a mooch around the shops and Jay bought me some new orange thongs. We then had a stroll along the beach. It was a lovely beach in a sheltered bay. We then did some food shopping at Food Works. This was a lovely and unique supermarket. It had loads of lovely stuff and is the closest food shop to Waitrose that I've found over here. All stocked up we were back on the Great Ocean Road. This section of the road hugs the coast for a long way and is a great drive and very spectacular. The scenery here made us feel like we were in the south of France. We stopped at Addis Bay which was a good choice. It was a lovely quiet little bay with a great view of the road hugging it's way round the coast. We drove further on to Lorne which although nice to look at didn't grab us. It seemed very exclusive and pretentious. The first proper pretentious place I've come across in Australia up to now. It was full of expensive restaurants, chic cafes and designer shops, most definitely not us. We had a look around for a bit and got some extremely yummy chips and watched the corporate pretentious people go about their business - 'Oh look at me in my BMW, Oh look at me looking posh and up myself'!!! We drove on to a place further down the Great Ocean Road called Aireys Inlet. This was a great, quirky little place and much more us. The caravan park here was lovely and much better priced, only $36. It was quiet and my shower was awesome, best in ages. We were having a lovely time until two lots of Germans in campers turned up near us and started being irritating. Oh well, never mind, it's a small price to pay for being in paradise.
