Happiness Is The Road
The camper van was booked in for it's second service today. I had booked it into K-Mart Tyre & Auto Services in Geelong. It was literally two minutes from the camp site and we took it there at 10. The guy at K-Mart said it would be ready at around 2-3pm but he'd try earlier if he could. Without the camper we were homeless for a few hours. We decided to go for a mooch around. We wandered over to the Barwon River first and had a walk along the riverbank and through the park. We watched all the rowers going down the river and had a cuddle and a giggle sat on the grass. We then went to explore the park further and found an area with outdoor gym equipment. This is a brilliant idea, free gym equipment in the great outdoors. We both had a go on all the stuff and we were in hysterics watching each other. It was really funny and we had an ace time. We then went for a walk up to the shops and stopped at a cafe for a coffee and a toasted sandwich for lunch. It was now 1 O'clock. The time had passed very quickly because we were having such a laugh but we still had an hour to kill. We went back to the park and sat on the grass listening to music and fooling about. At just before 2 I had a text message from K-Mart to say that the camper was ready. We got there just before it started to rain, absolute perfect timing. I then phoned ahead to a caravan park in Melbourne to make sure they had sites available tonight, they did. We then hit the road out of Geelong and to Melbourne, the biggest city on the trip so far. I was really looking forward to seeing Melbourne again. The last time I was here was 20 years ago. We went on the M1 Freeway from Geelong to Melbourne. The closer we got to Melbourne, the busier it became. This was the busiest traffic of the trip so far and I had to concentrate really ******* the road, as it was lashing with rain. I'm not used to this sort of traffic any more. Melbourne is such a big city compared to Perth and Adelaide. We were trusting Tom Tom to get us to the caravan park which is in a suburb called Coburg, about 9 kilometres from the city centre. Tom Tom directed us off the M1 and onto the M80. It was about half 3 now and getting very busy. This road was backed right up on the other side and reminded us both of the M60 in Manchester. Eventually we left the Freeway and it took about 15 minutes from there to get to the caravan park. By the time we got there the rain had stopped and we checked in and found our spot. Not long after we got there though the rain started again, torrential this time and didn't stop for the rest of the day. The temperature had dropped quite a bit too. What with the M80 being like the M60 and with the weather Melbourne had a definite feel of Manchester about it today! We chilled out in the camper for the rest of the day all snugged up and very happy listening to the rain. We were both very excited about exploring Melbourne tomorrow.
