Happiness Is The Road
It was time to leave Melbourne today. I was quite sad to leave Melbourne behind as it's been great here. It's much better than the Melbourne I remember of 20 years ago. I would currently rate it as my second favourite Australian city after Perth. I'll see how it fares in a month or so though as Sydney is yet to be visited. We hit the road after brekkie and drove out down the Mornington Peninsula which curves round Port Phillip Bay. The intention was to stay on one of the foreshore camping areas at Sorrento, Rye or Rosebud. I had thought that this area was quite rural but it seemed that it was still part of the Melbourne suburban sprawl. It had been pretty much built up all the way here. Melbourne is staggeringly big. There were different camp areas along the foreshore and we chose one at Capel Sound which was part of Rosebud. It was right on the beach and a lot quieter than the others we had seen. We prefer the quieter sites as people generally can be annoying! It was a good site that we had, a long way from others and the facilities were good. We were also straight across the road from a load of shops including a tattoo studio. I was slightly tempted but the tattoo will wait for a while longer. We chilled for ages as we're so good at doing and had a mooch down the beach and looked out into the vast Port Phillip Bay. Directly across the water from us was Melbourne city but it was so far away we couldn't see it. Later on we walked over to the bottle shop and bought a bottle of wine. We had a chicken pasta tea, polished off the wine completely and had a little more than the warm fuzzies .......hic!
