Happiness Is The Road
It was a very hot and sticky night and I didn't sleep that well. The overnight low can't have been any less than 25 degrees. I decided to go and see Adelaide today on the 157 bus. The bus stop was just a 2 minute walk away from the camp site. Whilst waiting for the bus I got bitten by ants, you have to be very careful where you stand over here! The bus took about 50 minutes to get to the city and I enjoyed the ride. For those of you who haven't gathered by now I do like buses! The centre of Adelaide has a really nice vibe to it, for a city it seems very laid back. I had a good mooch around the city centre and got a feel for the place before getting the tram to the seaside suburb of Glenelg. When I was last in Adelaide, 20 years ago, the Glenelg tram was a really old fashioned traditional wooden tram. Things have changed since then. The tram line has now been extended to other parts of the city and the trams are now modern and sleek, similar to Manchester's Metrolink trams. Glenelg is a very vibrant and cosmopolitan place full of cafes, bars, restaurants and nice little shops. It's kind of an Australian, seaside Didsbury! There is a jetty at Glenelg and also a very nice beach. I had my hair cut whilst I was here and the barber was telling me about the Fleurieu Peninsula, particularly Victor Harbor, which is where I am going in a couple of days. I wasn't sure where the best place to go on the peninsula was but that is decided now. I asked the barber for how I usually have my hair cut which is a number 2 on the back and sides and number 4 on the top. He agreed with the number 2 but was reluctant to give me a number 4 insisting that a number 7 would be best. We eventually compromised on a number 5! It was a good decision as he barbered my hair to perfection. I caught the tram back to the city later. The weather was mega hot again today and it seemed odd to see all the Christmas decorations up especially snowmen on the main shopping street. I caught the 157 back no problem and chilled for the rest of the day. Luckily by bed time the temperature had cooled quite a bit and it was far easier to sleep tonight.
