Happiness Is The Road
We were very excited today as we were going to Sydney, the most famous city in Australia. It was going to be so good to see those iconic Australian structures, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House again. For Jay it was even more exciting than me as she has never been to Sydney before. We set off after brekky with the intention of driving straight to Sydney. However, a short drive from Kangaroo Valley we saw a sign for Fitzroy Falls. We hadn't heard of these falls and they might be good we thought so we stopped to have a mooch. It was a really good find. We had a walk to the first look out and we were blown away. The view was incredible. The falls were very impressive but the view out into the valley and to the distance was breath taking. The valley was full of trees as far as they eye could see and there was a gorgeous blue haze to it. It looked similar to the Blue Mountains but not as awe inspiring. I said to Jay that this was a taster of how spectacular the Blue Mountains were going to be. We went to have a look at a few of the lookouts and were amazed at nature's beauty. Whilst walking between the lookouts we saw some lyrebirds which were very cute and a bit peacock like. After the falls we continued our journey to Sydney. The traffic got busier and busier the closer we got but as it was a Saturday it wasn't too bad. We were driving through the suburbs for ages as Sydney is a huge city. We went to do some shopping near the camp site first and went to the Top Ryde Shopping Centre. We had a bit of difficulty parking as the only car park was a multi story and as the camper is a high top we were too high to get in. We eventually found a spot on the street not too far away. We stocked up on food at Woolies and got a new camp chair from Big W and then went to find the camp site. I had booked us into the Lane Cove River Tourist Park which was only 10 kilometres from central Sydney. It had been recommended to use by a few people on our travels. It is set within the Lane Cove River National Park and it is the camp site that they now use for filming as the Summer Bay camp site in Home & Away. With Tom Tom's assistance we found the site no problem. It was in a lovely bush setting and inside the site you felt like you were in the bush and not in a city. We got a good site and the facilities were good and modern with excellent powerful showers. We booked in for five nights as there is loads to see and do in Sydney. We just chilled for the rest of the day and watched the funny bush turkeys that were roaming all over the camp site. They were really funny birds that kept fighting and squabbling with each other. We went to bed delirious with excitement of the adventures to come in Sydney.
