Last-night I slept quite well considering how hot and humid it was. There were a number of Mosquitos buzzing around in the room and I probably ended up with a few bites; they say even when you use loads of insect repellant here you still get bitten by these little b*****s. Today I have to meet the rest of my group at 8:30am at the tour office, this I am certainly looking forward to as I know the group can make or break the trip. However I have told myself no matter what I will be having a good time and a good bunch of people will make it even better. On arrival at the office I was asked if I would like to do the jungle tour first instead of the Pampas tour as they had 4 others wanting to do it today. In our group we had two German girls- Miriam and Julia, Rahul a Spanish guy and David from America. We all agreed and just like that we were off on the jungle tour. The trip to the jungle was about 3 hours up river, stopping only to get our entry permits and to see a sloth we found hanging in a tree. Our guide Zenon was really great even though he could barely speak a word of English he was so enthusiastic and got excited like a little child everything he saw something. The boat arrived to a small dock and we all unloaded the things and helped cart all the equipment into the lodge - about a 10 minute walk. Arriving to camp I was greeted by about 30 wild pigs roaming about and within the lodges, as soon as they noticed my presence they were off like a bull at a gate. As we were the only ones at the lodge - our rooms were cleaned and we waited for our lovely chef Carmen to cook us lunch: chicken roast, salad and rice. At 3pm we headed into jungle on an expedition, searching fir animals, fruits and plants. It became apparent very quickly that the jungle was inundated with Mosquitos and the next few days we would spend all our time trying to rid ourselfs of these little b*****s.
We ended up seeing monkeys, various fruits, poison trees and birds all whilst traversing through the thickest Forrest I have ever come across. We came across a Tarzan rope and all had a go at swinging among the trees - one of the highlights for me. We arrived back almost at dark, showerd, played a game of UNO and drank some cane alcohol before dinner was served. For dinner we had mince, carrot salad, pasta and chips - all of which was delicious but unfortunately i began to feel sick from eating too much, too quick. There were so many bugs in the dining room and I found our everyone was scared silly of insects and so every time a bug would land on someone there would be a chain reaction of screams around the room. We played cards, chatted more and shared some great travel stories before heading to bed around 11pm.
