Goodbye camper van hello civilisation!! We have arrived in Sydney. It was very cloudy when we left Alice but still warm and very grey and cloudy when we arrived in Sydney. In fact it was raining on the way to the hotel. I decided that Alice perhaps wasn't a dump when we toured the town on the airport shuttle bus. But Sydney is something else. We are staying in the Ibis hotel at Darling Harbour but we look out onto the road at the moment. So we have asked to be upgraded to a harbour view if they have a space tomorrow.
After sorting ourselves out and a lovely shower we set off to look around. Darling Harbour is lovely - very busy and vibrant and at night time very colourful with lights. In fact it was heaving and every restaurant was full to bursting. It is so very different to Perth more like London but even busier. Mick decided he would like Chinese so we walked to Chinatown and found a restaurant. It really was get them in and feed them ASAP! No sooner had we sat down than we were asked for our drinks and food order with no time to choose. But the food was good.
We made our way back to Darling Harbour and guess what? We found a scrummy Gelato so we had to have an ice cream.
We left the Red Centre having experienced temperatures in places of up to 45C to Sydney with temperatures of 23C. I wore long trousers (pants as they say in Oz!) for the first time since we arrived tonight and had a cardi. But hey, I am sure it is still a lot warmer than over there with all of you.
PS Mick has just told me that when we go to the cricket on Thursday one of the teams will be Australia!
