All I want to do is swim with a f***ing turtle............
We arrived in Cairns on Sunday and met Dan and Steve at our hostel. This is where the adventure was to begin. We got checked in to our room and had a BBQ at our hostel before heading into town. When we arrived we went to a travel agents, had a look at what we could do and planned the next couple of weeks. We caught the last shuttle back and grabbed some grub before heading out in the evening.
The next morning we collected the car. Her name is Ness and she is a gorgeous White Ford Futura who comes with a load of camping equipment. We then took her for her first drive, heading north along the coast to Port Douglas. The drive had some incredible views and after a quick trip to the beach we headed back to Cairns for the night.
That evening we just chilled out and got a kebab as we had an early start the next day. We got up at about 6.30am and Steve, Dan and I went on a diving trip on the Great Barrier Reef day. Pete went with another company as he wanted to do his advanced diving. Our trip started with an intro dive where we all had to link arms. It was an average dive with not much great marine life. One plant thing looked like a vagina which we found quite amusing. Especially when it closed when we touched it. That was probably the highlight of the dive. After this we had lunch on the boat before heading out snorkelling for a bit to look for a turtle. No such luck so back on board and on to the next dive site. When we got there we were the first group to dive and the second dive was much better. We didn't have to link and we saw loads more fish including a clown fish family and three stingrays. After this we were told that snorkelers had seen turtles in a certain area. Off we went in search for turtles but again they heard I was coming and f***ed off home. Will I ever see a turtle?
After two dive sessions we headed back to Cairns but not until one of the crew set up a guitar and microphone and sung us a few songs. This prompted Dan and Steve to get up and play a couple of songs. First was Abba which was followed by The Killers. Great reception and first performance done. Once we got back to Cairns Steve, Dan and I jumped in the car and we are now heading for Port Douglas for a night. We meet up with Pete tomorrow as he is diving overnight.
Hope everyone is all good
