Hunting for Mushrooms
Day 3 29/8/2018
New adventure , hunting for mushrooms
We rise today to the stillness of the of the country on beautiful sun lite day but the background noise is like the chimes of a bell tower , those chimes are actually cow bells , so with every chomp of their jaw on the grass it moves the bell , 20 cow chewing together make quite a noise. It is 6.30am and Shirley and I are up having toast and coffee before we embark on something we have never done before with Michelle , Mushroom hunting in the small hills of Fribourg where the pine forest are tall and their shadows they cast is just the right amount of darkness to encourage the growth of mushrooms. The terrain is steep and full of undergrowth and to find mushroom seemed to be an impossible task to achieve . Michelle lead the way and was also explaining what we should be looking for, we had little success mainly because hunters had been there since the crack of dawn grabbed most of the mushrooms in this particular area. We thought going down the slope was hard but to our surprise going back up was very exhausting . On the way back up we able to come across two beautiful mushrooms so our day was complete , we would not go home empty handed. The rest of the morning we went with Michelle to see some of the sight of their beloved village of Fribourg and what lovely picturesque sight they were. I stood at one stop and realised how green and beautiful this area was and couldn’t help thinking of the farmers in Australia battling the worst drought that has been on going for 10 years.
We arrive home in time for lunch and we were very happy to find wild mushrooms on the menu for lunch with either rice or spaghetti . A couple of red wine, a beer or two and it was sleep time . Danielles’ son has wifi so after our snooze they took us over there so we can pay a bill and while we are at it, post day 2 of the blog . The day has past very quickly and as I am writing this the clock has chimed 9 o’clock. Shirley and Michelle have been taking and between them have a few thing planed for the rest of our stay so this could be very interesting. I have a few pictures of this morning adventure hope you like them. The time is right for us to say good night ,hope all are well ,til the next blog stay safe, and look after each other .
Love Shirley and John
