It's my birthday today, in Paris, invade you didn't catch that :)
Today the Contiki group had a free day to see and do what they wanted to in Paris. Firstly they were off to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower. We went to the Tower with them but we headed off in our own direction, and braving the elements, to find Princess Diana's Memorial. Again I'm amazed at how we just seem to know where things are! Last night we looked at three different maps and ended up giving up trying to work out where it was and today we just decided to go in the general direction. We asked our Contiki Tour guide but he set us off in the wrong direction....men! Hehe but luckily we checked the map an worked out it was right not left. We found the bridge and then the tunnel where the accident occurred. We spent a moment paying our respects to Diana. It was a sombre moment. Sad and eerie to look in the tunnel. The images from the news reports were fresh in my mind as I stood there an remembered that day. Almost bringing tears to my eyes now. But eventually we had to move on as we were starting to get quite wet. My poor umbrella had seen better days and was not standing up to the wind. It certainly looked a sight I'm sure! On our way back we found some Christmas markets. Absolutely lovely to walk amongst them. We returned home to dry out and defrost our toes then set off again to do some Secret Santa shopping. We are doing Secret Santa with our group. We finally found a shopping centre which was great to wander around and have a look at. Home now snug and warm. I know you'll be disappointed to hear I'm not out partying for my birthday but those who know me know that this was just one more perfect day for me! We'll head down for dinner soon. I'm pretty chuffed right now :) feeling all mushy so I'm sending out heaps of love to you all! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
