This morning after a hearty breakfast we headed back to our Metro Station and onto the line to Notre Dame! I have to say I think I've finally gotten my Metro legs. I don't go ass up when it starts or stops anymore! We can even work out how to change lines and find stops closer to our point of interest so we don't have to walk for hours anymore! Very handy! Notre Dame was just breathtaking! I've never seen anything so beautiful! I've probably said that about everything so far but this was....wow! They wanted you to be silent while inside....hard for some but really you didn't even want to speak. I was in awe of the size of the building but also it's beauty. The windows were unlike anything I've seen. I'm sure my year 4 students could describe it much better with their use of noun groups but I was just speechless. The music playing made it a little eerie but calming at the same time. I could've sat there for hours!
After finally leaving Notre Dame, and it was hard, we decided to walk up to the Bastille. Great you think! Ha. After walking all that way we get to this statue which is clearly not the Bastille and it had no plaque. We took a picture anyway but who knows what it is!
So we made the trek back to the Metro Station and it was off to the Eiffel Tower. This time for a day time viewing. This is where we got very adventurous....wait for it! That's right we changed Metro lines! Wow! We arrived at the Eiffel Tower and after climbing the spiral stairs to the top of the Arc De Triomphe I had no hope of getting Jac to climb the 6 hundred something stairs to the Eiffel Tower. Secretly I was relieved! So after waiting in line for our tickets, which surprisingly didn't take too long, we shot to the top of the Tower! The views were amazing of course. It was interesting to see the layout of the city. Two major monuments down today and it was time to head back and meet our Contiki group. They arrived from London about 5.30pm after a huge day. We had a quick run down on things, dinner, then onto the bus for a tour around the city. It was great to hear stories about the buildings we had been seeing, the French Revolution and Napoleon. Did you know that the Eiffel Tower was suppose to be pulled down after 20 years! The horror of it! Anyway lots of good stories and things I'm sure I learnt in History at school but had forgotten. Well that's about from today. Oh wait! There was this toilet! You press the button, walk in, do your business, wash your hands, walk out and then it cleans itself! That was pretty cool although the toilet itself not that comfy. More a squatting job really. Anyhoo that's it folks! xo
