Yesterday we had a leisurely start leaving Richfield at noon to drive less than three hours to Zion NP. We stayed right in the park at Zion Lodge - I thought it looked so beautiful right in the middle of the canyon when we were here last time that I had to come back here. We arrived before 4pm after a lunch stop in Cedar City and booked into our room which is at the back of the lodge but looking out on trees and a rock face. The room is lovely and has a balcony out the back - we went for a short walk along the Virgin River after booking in for a ranger guided tour tomorrow. We had dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed the serenity of the park at night.
This morning we got on the ranger tour after a great night's sleep. The tour took us to places we had passed coming into the canyon and the ranger explained some of the geology behind the formation of Zion. We went further into the canyon than we had ever been and saw more of the Virgin River, a waterfall, and the massive rock faces that form some of the hikes that you can do to their tops.
After our lovely stay at Zion it's time to be on the road again - this time to unpack the suitcases for a week in Las Vegas!
