This morning we set out to visit Sabino Canyon which is about 12 miles NW of Tucson. It is a canyon area that is a natural desert area with many varies of cactus including the magnificent saguaro. We walked about a mile into the canyon and even though the morning was overcast and much cooler than temperatures we've had we still came back dripping with sweat. We drove across the northern areas of Tucson to hook back onto the interstate - passing 'the boneyard' the world's largest plane graveyard. We bypassed Phoenix and headed off the interstate before Flagstaff to go via Cottonwood to Jerome - a huge storm cell passed over us at Cottonwood and the roads were hard to see so we though better of it and headed back towards Flagstaff.
We passed through Sedona just before dusk - we had visited here a number of years ago and were keen to see the magnificent red rocks again - they didn't disappoint! From there we drove through a lovely canyon area to hit Route 66 again and stay at the Days Inn. We ate dinner at the Galaxy Diner across the road - great food - pot roast for me and a steak for Peter. That should give us energy for The Grand Canyon tomorrow!
