Today we decided to move on and check out early - our poor backs are killing us. Jacq finds a hotel near the airport called Udom offering a superior room and pool. It's takes 40 mins and cost 600 bhat to do the trip by taxi and it's so worth it! It's £35 a night here and for that u get your own mini apartment complete with lounge area, dining table, kitchenette microwave grill, huge fridge,
sink and basic crockery, bedroom separated with a wall has a flat screen and the bathroom is a good size - it's the best place we have stayed in yet!
We spend the day lounging by the pool, Matt sunbathing and Jacq reading a new book she found called Meeting Point. Pure bliss. Matt wanders to the beach and back and we stock up on supplies to cook our own dinner for the first time in a month - speciality being super noodles avec sausages et corn on la cob.
We meet the chef here; his name is Soda - really nice friendly guy who tells us openly he was a tsunami victim lucky to get away rescued by an English man who he called Mr John from 3 metres of rubble - he was in such a bad way he couldn't work for 6/7 months. Mr John found him a year later and with only 250 bhat in his pocket (£5) gave him 20,000 bhat (£400) to set up his own little cafe which he called "thank you" dedicating it to Mr John having being saved from the tsunami and rescued. It's a lovely story and 10 years on you can see how grateful he still is taking any opportunity he can get to tell everyone about this amazing Englishman who handed him a second chance in more ways than one. To say his story put things into perspective is an understatement, I would love to meet Mr John!
We enjoyed lounging around and taking it easy - the bed was amazing thank god - the backs won't know what hit them!
