What a day - sorry for the delay in blogging but this day was a challenge!!!
Our ferry trip only took 40 mins, as usual it was late but nonetheless we managed to meet a lovely Australian couple - Lauren and Matt who offered us a BBQ at theirs when we hit Canberra.
We got a mini bus to our hotels meeting point- the Same Same bar - our hotel transfer picked us up and took us up a steep hill to Ameresa resort. They seemed friendly enough but when they escorted us to our room it wasn't anything like the pictures, the beautiful big wooden cabins were supposedly full so we were taken to a quaint rickety old shack - we thought we'd give it a go anyway!
When we got in we noticed a lot of holes and gaps, some were sealed with Sellotape and Matt spotted a huge lizard near our loo behind a mosquito screen. The beds were like concrete we genuinely thought it might be concrete, and were surprised to find actual mattresses under the sheets - it was like sleeping on the floor.
Anyway, we were shattered so we quickly nipped out to paradise cafe for some rice, it's the venue for the original full moon party, and headed back for some zzzzs.
Jacq was snoozing, Matt was lying awake unable to sleep on the rock mattress but we both jumped up at the same time to what sounded like screeching birds. Matt flashed a torch at the walls and three lizards scampered across, we jumped up, and as you can imagine a decision without words was quickly made as Matt packed whilst Jacq ran out of the door to see the manager.
Jacq explained to her that although the area is lovely it's unrealistic to think they are going to be able to sleep here for 4 nights with a family of lizards and beds like bricks - the owner seemed to understand and offered a refund minus tonight (this clearly happens often) - we took it and ran. Matt arrived with the bags and we trekked down the road, Jacq found a last-minute booking 5 mins away, much more expensive but less likely to have such issues, so we went for it.
The room was great, it would be a 2 star hotel in the UK but after what we experienced it was a 5 star Ritz experience with a TV and bathroom with ….. a bath - pure luxury!!!
Jacq spent most of the night writing emails to the hotel website to try and salvage some money as the past two bookings have cost us the equivalent of an extra 3 nights' accommodation due to lack of information, she downloads Matts pics from his iPhone and saves them onto an sd card and writes positive reviews for the other stays we have had. Jacq finds a spare room, last one, at Blue Hill resort, more money but we both feel we've done the shack thing, the romantic notion of it hasn't rung true and we like to sleep!
Matt catches up with his parents, Grandpa and Jamie on FaceTime regaling tonight's entertainment.
