Today was another good day - despite our lizard guest last night we set off around 10am to take our scooter back which we hired for 200 bhat 48 hours (£4). We were a tad nervous given we changed the tyre and the cost would be huge according to their very biased contract, but they didn't notice and all was well.
Dropping it off at the other side of the island decided to walk back stopping at Thailand's version of a 99p store aka a 25bhat store (50p). We bought locks, lavender candles and a flexogrip support for Matts wrist exercises ( due to the break and operations before we left )
We walked along the shore to our favourite sunset bar which is part of seaside bungalows resort. Brekkie devoured, we sunbathed until 4pm and took a dander stopping at a market to grab a bottle of cheap vodka and like the pikeys we are, we topped up water bottles with vodka, diet coke and tonic water (Gotta try it!!) with still loads left we stashed it in our bag and headed back to Sunset Resort.
We order pad thai chicken (beautiful) and sweet chicken with happy hour drinks finishing up on the to watch the sunset - it's stunning watching the boats gliding past - got some great pics.
Having had a long old day at the beach and subsequently sipping vodka, we headed back stuffed and rested up - realising as soon as we got back that we left our favourite fast drying travellers towels drying on a tree at the beach! We bought them before we left in the uK so there's little chance of replacing them here, so armed with tons of deet and a bottle with a vodka and coke of course, Matt braves the walk whilst Jacq packs up most of our stuff - if you're not working (not to sound like ungrateful spoilt idiots, hopefully anyone whose travelled or retired understands) 9 - 9 is a damn long day to fill, every day - but it is a chore we are happily undertaking!
As it was our last night we headed to the bar at the hotel for a couple chatting with lovely Yosh who has worked there for two years and used to work in the Emirates lounge Dubai. She tells us some funny stories about guests she has had to deal with and the madness of the full moon parties. What we didn't realise is that after the Koh Tao murders another one happened on the same island, the guys' wrists were tied up behind his back, he was from France and they claimed it to be a suicide - there's a real lack of accepting any responsibility here and it frustrates people that the authorities don't handle things better. Supposedly afraid to really look into things in case a Thai person is to blame and the tourism subsequently suffers as a result.
We chat for ages, Yosh is from the Philippines and hopes to finish up at blue hill this year - we exchange contact details and crash for the night. She's a bad influence....
