After meeting Kratos early we headed up the local pool after breakfast. It was around a 10 minute walk up the hill which thankfully had a relatively low gradient. The pool is a little complex consisting of an outdoor pool of 25 metre length, gym, table tennis facility, bar/restaurant and sunbathing area. Instead of loungers they had bamboo mats which were surprising comfortable considering the dehydrated, firm earth on which they laid.
It took all of about five minutes to jump in the cool, clear water of the pool. Thankfully, it didn't have the usual Asian characteristics of so much chlorine it burns you eyes from their sockets and being a mass grave for ten million bugs.
After cooling off we had short periods in the sun interceded with pool dips. I went for food just after noon as I refused to pay the prices at this place. I went to the fried rice lady we visited yesterday and enjoyed an inflated portion.
On my return, I experienced a pretty rapid onset abdominal pain. I was in the middle of walk back to pool and had that sudden fear, Christ, I'm not going to make it. I did my Usain Bolt impression up the hill, probably drawing eyes from passers by and luckily darted for the conveniences. I felt absolutely fine afterwards, must of been a little bit too much spice yesterday. After that little drama had ceased, it was back to to the pool and pure relaxing. Although by this point the number of people had increased by six fold so the relaxing element sort of dwindled away.
Around 3pm dark clouds where circling in the distances with the occasional rumble of thunder. We decided to make a break for it, not knowing if there would be an imminent downpour. We arrived back at our bungalow and although the skies were dark no rain materialised but the air had chilled slightly. We agreed to meet up later for food and to check out this apparent party.
Laura had looked up a curry house in the town which had received rave reviews. A young chef was doing it solo, being the chef and front of house staff all in one. Luckily we arrived when it was empty so the food came relatively quickly but it soon filled up afterwards. The curries were tasty but not enough substance for me unfortunately. Laura and Kratos asked for extra spice which was taken to the next level by the chef. Kratos had some serious after burn going on. On returning to our place, a group of Koreans, likely students, were cooking some food for westerners. They kindly offered us some, which I was grateful for as I was still hungry. Surprisingly they were cold, spicy egg noodles and were very good, but did leave a kick! Kratos and myself had finished our shop bought beers by this point and not before long we headed to the party.
The party took place in a hostel up on the hill, called Darling View Point. This was so called because it was on a hill, and secondly, the lady owner always called everyone darling. The pool we were told about resembled more them foot baths you used to have to walk through before entering a swimming pool. Not really much to write home about. They had bought in a freshly killed pig which looked fairly cremated on the spit roast by this stage. If I was critical I'd say it was on a too higher heat to early, but I'm no chef.
We were lucky enough to obtain a bottle of rum from the guesthouse at supermarket prices. I think it was Kratos charming the owner with his good south East Asian looks. He can be very handy in certain situations, especially when you want good prices for stuff. We got coke as mixer and the rum was flowing freely now and we were soon joined by companions from holland, Germany and the USA.
We chatted through the night about random things such as the Dutch phrase swaffaling (long story) and we pretty much in hysterics continuously, soon enough the hog roast was being served along with salad and actual potatoes! They were a little hard for my liking but Laura really enjoyed them. To be honest the hog was gone in a flash as the backpackers were like vultures swarming around a carcass. After the meal we continued chatting with the guys before Kratos decided to head off around 1am and I was not long behind him, Laura stayed behind with a group of girls for so called 'girls time'. To be honest by the time I got home I knew she wouldn't be too far behind!
She finally snuck in at 5am carrying two pots of noodles which I was more than happy to wake up for... She had headed in town with our group to a bar called "no cry" and partied on even meeting someone from Milton Keynes... Small world! We chatted over our noodles before falling to sleep.
