We finally arrived at just after seven am at a bust station about four km from Krabi. There were locals everywhere trying to get you in a taxi and such which was going to cost about two hundred and fifty baht... I don't think so for a four km journey. There was also another option of a small bus called a songthaew and that would cost about fifty baht each. We both agreed that we should just walk... We got less than one km in ...maybe a little more before a songthaew pulled up beside us and offered us the journey for twenty baht. That's less than half what the bus station were charging. We agreed and jumped in. We arrived at the town shorty after and headed to the hostel where were shown to our room.
The room was costing us three pounds each so I didn't have very high expectations... Especially as she led us down to the basement. However on opening the door I was surprised. The room was actually quite big with a double bed, table and two chairs. It did indeed have a window looking on to the garden and an en-suite plus a fan which is a necessity here. We said thank you and dumped our bags before having a cold shower each (can't have it all). We were then feeling a lot better and a lot more awake then we should have after the lack of sleep so we decided to make the most of our energy and head out for some breakfast. We found a little cafe down the road called 89 and headed in. I ordered a fruit salad and soda water and Steven ordered noodles with veg, it was a little early for noodles but they said if he didn't mind waiting then they could make them. Thankfully we had all the time in the world so that was fine.
The fruit salad was very nice and fresh consisting of banana, pineapple and melon and it was very refreshing. We checked our mail and I saw I had a message from mumsie... A lovely surprise. I munched my salad slowly and sipped my soda water and still Stevens food didn't arrive lol. In the end it took over an hour haha although we didn't mind as it was lovely basking in the sunshine without a care in the world. All you could hear around was the occasional screaming and cheering from a bar down the road where the Super Bowl was playing.
Eventually Stevens noodles came and he enjoyed them immensely, apparently on returning to the UK he is going to eat rice or noodles for breakfast as he doesn't see the point of toast.. It's like eating air. We finished our breakfast and went off to explore Krabi... That didn't take long lol. In the end we decided to take a songthaew to AoNang beach which is about fifteen km away and would cost fifty baht each. We headed to the hostel... Grabbed our swimsuits and headed out.
The journey was quite cool as didn't take long. A songthaew is basically a pick up truck which has seating at the back and you sit in the back and hop on and off as you like. The drivers follow a route and they are everywhere so you never have to wait long for one. Much cheaper then a taxi which charges 500 baht but just as fast and comfortable. Once we came in view of the sea all I could say was wow! This is what we have been waiting for, we actually didn't stay on till AoNang and got off at the beach before it called Noppharat Tara beach, which is quieter. It was beautiful... Just like you imagine. We walked the length of it, swam a little, sunbathed a little then walked to AoNang.
AoNang is the main tourist hub and you can see why people flock here... The beach is lovely... More sandy then Noppharat Tara beach which tends to be covered in small shells and shingle. The area is covered in bars, restaurants and shops but still has a very quiet laid back feel. We sat here for a while enjoying a nice cold milkshake from Burger King (hey... Don't judge they were half price and amaaaaaaaaazing!). We walked for miles around the area before admitting defeat, it is ridiculously hot here! By now it was getting on for four o'clock so we whet back to the hotel to try and research somewhere for tomorrow night. Did we want to stay in AoNang? Go to Railay? Head to and isle? Decisions...
Steven however fell asleep shorty after arriving back so I spent the afternoon sifting through hundreds of hotels. When he finally stirred after seven I was no where nearer to deciding on a place so we headed to dinner. We wandered into the main part of town and found a quaint little cafe which had a very friendly feel. The whole family worked within the restaurant and even the kids and babies were their being fed and put into their Jammies... There was toys and prams everywhere. Steven ordered himself vegetable noodles and I had pad thai, we also ordered beef with kale mmm delicious. After dinner we strolled back to our area and found a cafe where Steven had a beer and I had a soda. We sat for a hour or two making plans for the next few days deciding to stay put for another night or two before heading to Koh Lanta. By about half eleven we headed back to the hotel where we looked in to Koh Lanta a bit more before falling asleep.
