Today we woke early excited to be heading on to Singapore later today, our Vietnam adventure was coming to an end. My stomach was still causing me some grief so I stayed back and packed while Steven headed to breakfast. On his return we finished packing our things and checked out, we gave our thanks to the hotel and headed off to the bus station. The walk was warm and humid and seemed a lot longer with our bags on our backs, we passed the market and were soon at the bus station where as soon as we got to the bus stop the bus pulled in. The door opened and I asked the driver if the bus was headed to the airport, the driver nodded and gestured us on to the bus where we paid four thousand dong each and were given a ticket... Probably the easiest and hassle free journey so far. We took a pew and the bus headed off towards the airport.
The journey took a good forty minutes or so through crazy Monday morning rush hour traffic... The biggest cities in the world don't compare to Saigon in rush hour. Soon enough however we were arriving at the airport where lionair were yet to open check in. My tummy was sore and I hate lugging my bag around so we took a seat and waited for the desk to open, while waiting a young Korean couple next to us kept requesting that we take their picture and so that took up some time. They were pretty fussy and requested so many pics that eventually their phone stopped working. We decided to go and get a cup of coffee but the prices were silly and I didn't even want one ...I was just bored and restless due to the tummy ache.
Thankfully check in soon came around and we checked in our bags, which were surprisingly light at thirteen kg and fifteen kg. After checking in the bags we headed through security and through to departures where Steven was feeling peckish. We looked through the souvenir shops and a beautiful enamel pot caught my eye in one of the shops for five dollars. I was a bit unsure as it was quite pricey so thought I would wait and see what else was on offer. Eventually we came to our gate and found a few more souvenir shops where the wares on offer were more reasonably priced. I found a similar pot that was bigger and very pretty for four dollars so I thought I would invest along with a magnet. I was meant to go shopping in Saigon but I was a fed up and sore so couldn't face it.
After souvenir shopping we headed to burger king where we bought a couple of meals. I had a cheese burger meal and Steven a whopper... They were beautifully made (actually looked like the pictures) and very tasty although I was unsure of how my stomach would feel about cheese.. Guess time will tell. After eating we went and chilled by the gate while waiting for our flight to arrive, which it did eventually and we headed on board.
The flight passed quickly as I fell asleep as soon as I sat and therefore it was was pretty uneventful. We landed in Singapore in late afternoon and it was a good feeling, the skies were clearer than expected (had been under a blanket of smoke and smog the past week from the Indonesian wild fires). We wandered off and went to collect our bags... We then headed to the metro and caught the train to our district. It was an easy journey but just long and busy, we were soon at the Singapore general hospital though and disembarked. From here we walked the fifteen to twenty minute walk to our hostel, it wasn't as humid as I thought here but was very sunny and hot still and the more dehydrated I was the more my tummy ached.
We arrived at the 'Happy Snail' hostel and were welcomed by the lovely friendly owner. He showed us to our room, which was shared with six more and gave us free padlocks for our lockers, we then dumped our bags before sitting down for a cup of tea and some toast. It was a really nice place with a communal kitchen and laundry facilities as well as free tea, coffee, toast and cereals. Think I may struggle to get Steven out of the hostel. The evening was spent researching Singapore and washing all our clothes ready for Oz before watching some television and eating peanut butter and Nutella on toast ...yummy.
We then headed to bed for an early night ensuring we were fresh, bright and hopefully pain free for tomorrow.
