Kratos arrived nice and early this morning and joined us whilst we tucked into our complementary breakfast. We had the inspired idea of unleashing the marmite we had bought from Hong Kong, it had not seen the light of day for a while and I was bored with the taste of strawberry jam. Our intentions were to go on the bicycles today but the seemingly mammoth inclines around here was putting us off. After some deliberation, we took a stroll over the rickety bamboo bridge which leads into the town.
It was not long before we had found the very cheap fruit shake lady I had spotted the day before. Now fruit shakes are something of a countrywide phenomenon in Thailand. It is just a blended concoction of fruit, ice, water and syrup with popular ones being mango, pineapple or watermelon. All of these fruits are very cheap here (unlike the U.K) and this lady sold them for the equivalent of 35p. Laura enjoyed the ice cool beverage ....always saying no syrup and little ice. We had a good look around the town but after a little walking, it was getting hot so we dived into a local eatery who specialised in fried rice. We had the fried rice with stir fried chicken cooked in basil, topped off with a fried egg on top. It was tasty and just what I needed at the point.
We all chilled out in the afternoon and two lads informed us a party would be happening tomorrow night. The location was a hostel on the hill which formed the backdrop to our place. We said we would come and check it out and liked how you could bring your own drinks.
We returned to town in the evening and got some cheap food consisting of rice, curry and noodles. At this point I had an inspired ideas of remembering there is a public outdoor pool here. I think the idea of sunbathing and a cooling pool won Laura over instantly. She had been commenting on her fading tan and the lack of a beach lately. We enjoyed a swift Thai beer on the way home and enjoyed the cloudless night sky.
