After a very relaxing weekend of doing nothing in Antigua...(reading, wandering round shops, buying a painting, watching a film and eating a yummy bagel at the bagel barn), we started our final week of house building. We have about 8 more volunteers so to make sure all the groups were even Ian I had to change groups. We were a bit disappointed as this means we won't be working with Maddy for the final week, and we had a really good wee team! However, it's great to meet a group of new people (4 from New Jersey), who are really nice and it means we don't have to work on that tiny site anymore!
Because there are now 6 volunteers and 2 builders (twice as many volunteers as the last 3 weeks), we are now ahead of schedule, so hopefully our half day will actually be a half day! The family we are now working for are also Mayan and are really lovely. The dad is working harder than any of us and is always smiling. Some of the children are in school so we aren't getting to know them as much as the last houses...but it does mean we aren't getting quite so distracted, and none of our tools are going walk about!
Apart from that, things are pretty much the same as they have been...and we are back to cold potatoes, cold cauliflower and cucumber for lunch. We made an emergency trip to the supermarket for some bread and cheese and are going to ask for sandwiches for the rest of the week!!
