Today we finished our first house!! The family were really pleased and cooked a big meal as a celebration. We had no work to do after lunch and so Ian chased the kids around as usual. The only problem was that 2 hours later we were still waiting and Ian couldn't hack it anymore so was reduced to locking himself in the house whilst the kids banged on the door and the window until he came out. After this he decided that hide and seek might be better but opted for more hiding and less seeking on his part as they don´t understand the words "No mas por favor, no mas".
We then had a little "handover" ceremony with the family when the dad got quite emotional and the grandad said that the new house was a "gift from God". The house may not look like much to you but most people still live in corn shacks, which can be wiped out completely by heavy rainfall and that the wind can go straight through as the walls are simply sticks and the roof is less than watertight. For both of us it was really touching to see how much of a difference all our hard work was going to make to their future and the kids too.
