Day 5 - 11 Nov 14 - Edinburgh
Morning started with homemade breakfast of bread (with egg and ham) and coffee - a simple affair to start the day of walking around the city of Edinburgh. Before we left the apartment, we did what seemed like an indoor photoshoot, intiated by photo enthusiast Denise. It was great fun during the process of posing for the best shots and knowing that it'd be a great momento of our trip together.
Our first stop was the public park at Calton hill. Thankfully it was just a few minutes walk from where we stayed. We walked up the slope with great expectation of the kind of scenery that would afford us and indeed, its spectacular view at the top of the hill amazed us. Many iconic monuments were located at the hill too and though I didn't have much background to their history, I believe that it must be of noble reason why they were erected there. The kids were just running around and having a great time. The adults occasionally got them to join us to do jumping pictures. All in all, we spent nearly four hours up the hill but I enjoyed myself thoroughly.
Lunch was at this place called the Martone. We had Italian food. It was a well-deserved break after conquering Calton hill.
Next, we continued our walk to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. It was approximately a 20 minute walk from our lunch place. However, I didn't feel it was that long, probably because of the anticipation of how the Palace would look like. Upon arrival, we took pictures of the Palace's magnificent architecture. We bought tickets in order to enter the Palace for a short tour. As Yu cried for milk, while inside the Palace, we searched for the most convenient spot where Emma could nurse him (We didn't really take a serious tour of the Palace). At the gift shop, Emma bought a set of chinaware whom she felt in love with. I concur with her that it would be a great gift for ourselves to remind us of out awesome trip to Scotland.
It was close to 5pm plus when we left the Palace. We made our way back to the apartment to do some initial packing (We'd be on the road tomorrow) while the rest of them did some shopping. By the time we met the rest for dinner at about 8pm at Madogs Bar & Grill, Emma and I had already showered and she had done almost 60% of the packing. It was wise of her to suggest that we went back to the apartment since we had no intention to shop for anything in particular.
Everyone was tired after such a long day, especially the kids who were cranky during dinner time. After dinner, Emma and I went back to the apartment and after settling the children, we went to bed.
