Day 4 - 10 Nov 14 - Edinburgh
The alarm rang at 5am. It was because we had a train to catch at 8am from London to Edinburgh. With all the logistics and to ensure that we had enough time to pack whatever that was left unpacked yesterday, we thought it'd be wise to give ourselves sufficient time buffer. Thank God that King's Cross station wasn't far from our hotel lest it'd be pretty strenuous having to lug two heavy luggages to the station. We arrived half an hour early and waited patiently for the announcement of the train platform.
Once the announcement was made, we proceeded to board the train. It was a four-hour plus ride. In the train, some of us slept, some of us were in our social media world, and I spent some parts of the journey writing yesterday's experience on my Evernote. Also, I managed to catch some rest sporadically throughout the journey too.
When we reached Edinburgh, it was about 1230pm. We took the elevator to the ground level and once its door opened, what was set before our eyes were unbelievably stunning - the historically buildings that were stone-built with modern shopping outlets, the clock tower and the North Bridge. Took a few shots before we walked for about 15 minutes to our place of accommodation - York Place apartment. It was a three-bedroom apartment and the place was huge and the price was very reasonable at £130 per night. For each person, it would only have been slightly more than £20 per night. Thanks to the very thorough and conscientious research effort of the Ang family.
It was already 2pm when we had our lunch at Tiles cafe. The food was just normal and nothing much to shout about.
After lunch, we took a casual stroll and made our way to the Edinburgh Castle. On our way, I was just admiring the buildings and soaking myself in that Scottish atmosphere. I also saw two people that were chiselling the names of their new cafe onto the stone, contrary to the modern way of painting it. What a rare and precious sight!
When we reached Edinburgh Castle, it was almost dusk. Thankfully, with the HDR effect, the pictures still turned out pretty good. We didn't manage to go in as the visiting hour was over. Nonetheless, it sufficed to be able to take pictures of it and with it and also the breathtaking view that surrounds it. The open area in front of the Castle afforded much freedom for the kids to frolick about and you could see them really enjoying themselves in their own world and space.
Then, we went to Primark to do some shopping. After that, the rest went to Sainsbury to get food stuff for dinner (Emma went back to the apartment first to nurse Yu and I accompanied her before we joined the rest at Sainsbury). After dinner, we went back to our respective rooms and retired for the night.
