As many of you already know, the back seats of buses, the rubbish suspension/driving over bumps in the road… But no, I had wedged my head in between the seat and the bags and was horizontal! It wasn’t the best sleep, but at least it was some sleep (with the occasional bump that flung my body in the air!). But before we were anywhere near Pondi, I experienced my first flat tyre. Everybody jumped off the bus, got eaten by mosquitoes, had a cup of tea and got eaten by more mosquitoes, before we were back on our way, but not before a cheeky so and so was trying to steal my seat(s)!
According to Dan, another flat tyre occurred, but everybody was asleep apart from him, and only got some sleep when we were fast approaching our destination.
The one thing we were both looking forward for were the proper bakeries! The former French colony did serve up a couple of bakeries serving fresh baked breads, croissants, pastries and coffee. We were close to going into a Pizza Hut but decided money would be better spent at an oven bake pizzeria instead.
The canal is not really Amsterdam, just looked like a drainage system which disappeared half way up the road, the botanical garden need a bit more care and attention and the seafront was the sea crashing into rocks! It is a lovely place! In the French quarter, the effort has been made to the roads and the buildings, but unable to stay in that area due to budget restrictions.
There was like a ring road around the main area of Pondicherry which was made easier to explore with the help of hire bicycles and play amongst the traffic! We rented the bikes for the duration of the stay as it proved to be the best, easiest, fun and cheapest way to get around.
The football final was a main attraction for the Aussie Manchester United fan, spending majority of the day before in search for a social place to watch the game with a few beers. We had to resort to plan B, which was to watch it in our hotel room, which wasn't too bad until Manchester lost…
My camera was totally out of battery after the charger had drained the last few drops of power. Hoping Singapore can save me…
Dan caught a cold and decided to be unselfish and passed it on to me, so spent a whole day doing nothing much.
