Helen's Elective
Hi everyone
I thought i would post the weekends goings on.
Saturday
On Saturday I went to the Batu caves. The Batu caves are a group of caves, form limestone rock, which are situated just outside of Kuala Lumpur.
On arival at the caves you are greeted by an enormas statue of a Hindu God which almost dwarfs the cave enterance. The sculpture is not just there for fun the caves are a Hindu pilgimage and number of brightly colored shrines have been built. The main Hindu festival held at the site occurs in January and Febuary but the shrine had plenty of visitors coming to worship when I went.
The cave itself is really a massive cavern, think Indiana Jones or somthing similar. It is quite impressive to think how long it must have taken to reach its current state.
The walls of the caves are also covered by monkeys which, like to fight over bits of food left by visitors.
Sunday
I had a bit of a quieter day on Sunday. I went to the Menara tower, which is the 4th tallest telecom tower in the world, 421 meters to be precise. The tower itself was tall but nothing out of the ordinary. I didn't go up it, i am waiting to go up tall things untill Will arives. Around the tower is some of KL's oldest forest which was protected in the development of the tower. This was hot and sticky but nice to walk around, lost of tropical plants.
I think that is most of the weekends adventures. I will post photos later in the week when i can.
Love
Helen
