Helen's Elective
Hi everyone
I made it to Melaka on a very nice coach from KL.
Throught out Malaysias history Melaka has been one of its premier ports. Due to its strategic position on the, Straits of Melaka, Melaka has been subject to colonisation by several exteral populations, mainly the Potugese, Dutch, British and Japaneese, all whom have left their mark on the community. The effect of this eclectic ancestory was obvious as soon as I reached the town square. The town square is dominated the, red, Christ Curch and accompanying clock tower which date from the dutch period. Compared with the arcitecture anywhere else in Malaysia these buildings leave a striking mark on the landscape and I can understand why people are drawn to visit this area. The phase goes "Visit Malaysia, Visit Malaka."
The guest house I am residing in is somewhat more conentional, well I am not sure conventional is the right word but it is not Dutch. Tony's guesthouse has been a unique experience. Located just down the road from the Town square Tony's could be any other locals appartment if it was not for his unique taste in interior design. On my arival tony was busy customising his property. The walls were being painted an interesting shade of green, somewhere between... sorry am booking train tickets will continue later
