Yesterday evening after watching Last Vegas I managed to get up and get showered. We all went out for dinner with Rabin to a place called High Spirits, it was rather posh, and was almost like fine dining! You had to spend a minimum of 15,000 shillings per person, which wasn't difficult when the mains started at around 30,000 shillings. 30,000 shillings is only £12 but here that is a very expensive meal! Most meals are around 15,000 shillings or less. Rahim had broken his fast earlier in the evening, so he had a chocolate brownie, whilst the rest of us had kingfisher (as seen in the photo). It was really tasty! I had mine with creamy mash potato which was amazing and easy on my throat too! High Spirits is also a nightclub but I didn't feel up for clubbing and neither did the boys.
After dinner we went to a few bars to say hello to some of Arnold's friends, they asked us to sTay out but I felt really ill and just wanted my bed. I told the guys they cpuld stay out but they didn't want to leave me on my own.
Today I woke up around 1pm which meant I had about 12 hours sleep.... Obviously needed it. It almost feels like a day wtasted, but I am ill and don't really feel up to anything anyway. I staged in bed until around 3pm. The guys were going to go play football and I told them I would stay in bed but they weren't having any of it, they said that they didn't want to leave me alone especially when I am ill. They've been complete gems! Constantly looking out for me, asking me of I want a cup of tea or water, asking me how I'm feeling, have I taken my medicine etc. It's been great to have them look out for me, and nice to know I have such great friends! I went to watch them play football. On the way to football we took a pit stop at Arnold's secondary school to have a look around. It's really strange that we could just sign in and wonder around the school. It was a massive school! Arnold absolutely loved it there, and all of his friends seem really nice, they all say how much they enjoyed it there. Arnold said we will return when school starts so I can see how much people loved him there haha, his head is so big sometimes!
Football.... They all collate at Josh's house for 16:30, his house is lush, he has a small football pitch in his garden! It wasn't too bad watching football, one guy played with no shoes on, which was strange. All though Rich doesn't speak much Swahili it was good to see him have a laugh with all of the other guys.
After football we all got showered and went to mambos for dinner. Rich was telling me yesterday how amazing their steaks were! I had fantas pass on as I felt I needed the sugar and it perked me up pretty quick. I ordered a pepper steak and it was delicious! They don't ask you how you want your steak cooked here, they just cook it, so I was a bit apprehensive that it might be a bit well done for me but it was perfectly cooked and the peppercorn sauce was better than any other peppercorn sauce I had tasted. The steak was massive, had to be a good 8 or 10oz I would say and it was a mere 15000 shillings, so about £6! Bargain! I felt a lot better after the meal, so instead of going home to bed as planned, I joined the guys going out. They kept asking if I wanted a drink or a shot but I didn't fancy it. In the end I had a Smirnoff ice, haven't had one of them in years but I didn't feel up to drinking. Arnold knows someone everywhere and he knew loads of people out! I am constantly saying "hi, my name's Harriet. Nice to meet you" and shaking people's hands. Rabin and Rich are the same. Ot s strange, a lot of people think Rabin is a tourist but his parents live here in Dar and he speaks Swahili but he lives and studies in England. He says it is because he is Arab that people assume he is not from Dar.
I ended up asking Arnold to bring me home as I started to feel unwell again. He brought me home straight away, even though I told him no rush, he made sure I was okay and wouldn't leave until I was in bed. He told me to call him if I needed anything and that he'd text me to check I am okay. So caring! I said that I'd just be sleeping so not to worry. He didn't want to leave me in my own but I told hum that I'd be okay and for him and Rich to enjoy their night!
Arnold has his room like a fridge! It took about 15 minutes to find the AC remote but I was so releaved when he turned it off, it was way too cold!
