Grace's Adventures!
The next day (my last in Tassie!) I was going to drive quite a long way just to go to a tree top trail walk but was a long way just for that and Corinda said there is a really good one in the tropical rainforest in Cape Tribulation near Cairns so I will do that. So I had the morning to chat with Corinda which was nice, and write postcards and my journal and things. Went to the Cadburys chocolate factory with Corinda and her group she had been travelling with - we had happened to all book on the same tour so everyone crammed in my beetle and we had the most manic journey of getting lost, turning round and getting stuck behind lots of slow people because the signs weren't very good at all! We got there and ran across the car park to the factory, all cracking up from the manic journey, then we ended up having to wait for ages when we got there for some reason, even though we were pretty much on time! I didn't eat as much chocolate as the photo may suggest, but i did eat a lot! Me and Corinda took way too much from the first free sample area and held up the tour whilst we finished it as we weren't allowed to take it around the factory - was so funny! Had more free choc on the way round, very tasty! Saw all the different stages of production was great, all very technical, and lots of people with boring jobs. Saw a massive vat of liquid choc it smelt soooooooo good! Didn't go crazy in the shop afterwards, was quite refrained, and haven't pigged out on it too badly since returning to Melbourne either! Went souvenir shopping after the choc factory, then said goodbye to the people I had met - will see Corinda and Ruth (from England) in Melbourne though as they return soon after me. Enjoyed my last drive in my beetle back to the airport - it was sad to leave it behind! You could tell I had had a good time in it though as it was covered in mud and flies! I saw a group of girls I had met in the choc factory in the airport (knew I would as on same flight). Spoke to them for a bit, and plan to meet up with some of them soon, they are all international students at Melbourne uni. When I landed in Melbourne it was raining really hard! Couldn't get a bus as it was late, so got a taxi all the way to St. Kilda - was expensive! Spoke to the taxi driver about his travelling experiences is S. America - all sounded extremely scary - don't think I will be going there! Got to hostel and the guy was meant to be staying on longer in reception for me but it was all locked! I was meant to call him that morning to remind him but I had forgot! So luckily the taxi man was still there as I had to go into the hostel to get change, so he took my to where Sarah was staying (where I was staying before) and I called her and she let me in, so luckily there was a spare bed in her room (reception closed ages ago there) so I had a place to stay! Was quite relieved, as would probably have had to get the taxi driver to take me to a hostel in the city otherwise which would have cost loads!
Had to explain in the morning what had happened and the lady was really nice! Didn't want to go to the hostel I was meant to be staying in, not just because of what happened, but because I had since found out that the street it's on isn't very safe, so I rang up a place in the city where Corinda had stayed which was really cheap and a good weekly rate that puts it down to about $15 a night or something crazy! Free breakfast too! So I got the tram into the city after a horrid walk with the rucksack and other stuff I have. Wasn't too impressed with the hostel (not very clean and very big) but thought it would do. Have since moved rooms twice as the first one was really noisy as all the trams, trains and cars go by till late then start up very early in the morning, so didn't sleep very well. The next room was meant to be quieter but wasn't, as was full of very inconsiderate people turning the light on for ages after 11pm - not impressed. As usual I didn't keep quiet about it, but now I am in an all girls dorm right away from the road and next to a very decent all girls bathroom - yay! (All the others were unisex). I have complained about the cleanliness of bathrooms and lack of washing up liquid in the kitchen but seems to be in vain, but I don't mind so much now as have a nice bathroom. Tried to get my money back to move to another hostel but they don't do that, so will invesigate some others maybe tomorrow, but I think it will be ok now.
I went to see Sarah my first night back on tram and we cooked dinner together and we had a good gossip. The next night I was doing this on the computer and last night I went out with a nice girl called Laura and we met some other people and went to the massive casino complex for food - its all open 24 hours and you can get all kinds of food it's really mad! Had such a fun time, it's what I needed as was feeling a bit down about the hostel. A group of us and Sarah and some other people from the St. Kilda hostel are going on a big night out tonight including the actual casino - very exciting! I have been sorting out my bank account, getting photos and camera sorted, got visa, and all other bits and bobs during the day (including moving rooms, but luckily haven't had to do that today!) Have just found out there is a free tram that circles round the city centre it's great! Saving me time which is good as it's a really big city centre so everything is far apart! Wow, can't believe I am finally up to date, am going to type up my CV now as it needs changing, was all geared up for career in environmental education with waitressing and sales assistant jobs taking a back bench, but will have to completely change all that! Byeeeeeeeeee!
