We got up and it wasn't too chilly so sorted some bits out online then got refreshed and grabbed breakfast before heading out. We stopped a little bit out of Wanaka and did a walk up to the highest peak in the area, which had spectacular views of Wanaka lake and town. The weather was so good we even needed to put suntan cream on. We then carried on our way towards Fox Glacier, stopping at a viewpoint for Lake Hawea.
We arrived in Fox Glazier that evening, as it was a longer drive than usual, but we headed straight to the Glazier for a view. We did a walk up to the closest you could get without a tour and had an amazing view of the Glazier about 200 metres away. We took a few pictures and then headed back to the town. We then had a little wander around the town trying to find a camp site for the night. We checked in and then made some dinner.
The owner had recommended we do a 20 min walk through a forest round the corner to see glow worms, so we decided to give it a try. We took our torches and started walking, it was pitch black. We then bumped into an old lady who was trying to find the glow worms, and she asked to tag along with us as it was a bit too dark. So the 3 of us continued into the woods… we did slightly panic about the little old lady being there on her own, as we had no idea who she was, but we thought we'd be able to take her on if anything did happen! Soon we came to darkness in the forest and there were glow worms everywhere, they were like Christmas decorations! It was amazing to see. We headed back to the caravan site after enjoying the worms, and got an early night.
