Reluctantly leaving Mullaghmore head I continued into Donegal and found Rossnowlagh Beach which is long and driveable although I am still traumatised from being stuck on Inch Beach.
Next stop Slieve League, see photo, considered to be some of the highest and finest marine cliffs in Europe at over 600 metres. Terrific views over Donegal Bay and the Sligo Mountains.
More of the craggy wild coastal route and I decided to head for on of the britstops pubs which was in the middle of nowhere and nothing happening apart from heavy rain that night.
Most of the time the weather has been alright.
Next day made my way to Fanad Head its claim to fame is one of the most beautiful lighthouses.
My route took me to Letterkenny from where I decided to make a detour to Glenveigh National Park which had been recommended. There was a really strong wind funnelling through the hills that made it uncomfortable to walk the 4kms to the castle. I walked back intending to take a shuttle bus but the driver was so negative and such a grump that I gave up. This is the only time that has happened on this trip and came as quite a surprise.
It was dark by the time I reached Buncrana where you are allowed to park behind the tourist office. You can pay €5 for a card to hook up to electricity.
This was next to a little 'Amazing Grace' garden. This is dedicated to John Newton the foul mouthed sailor who became a changed man when he found safe haven in Lough Swilly. Although he became a captain of a slave ship which he later regretted he finally became a clergyman and strongly supported Wilberforce against slavery.
