Hello everyone,
We're now in Papatowai. The drive down was really amazing again. We went to Purakaunui Falls. This was a 10 minute forest walk to get to them and was a 3 tier fall, very beautiful. We carried on to the next waterfalls. They were called Matai Falls and were just as nice. We carried on again to our destination and booked into a gorgeous little motel overlooking beautiful bushland from our private balcony. We dumped our stuff and drove down to Catherdral Caves. These caves are only accessible by low tide and are right on the beach. The walk down was about 20 minutes through beautiful forest. Once on the sand it was just a few minutes from the caves. Wow, these were amazing. Really huge and over 30 metres high. We walked through them and just were amazed at it all. Afterward we walked back up and had lunch overlooking the sea.
Tomorrow we are on our way to Invercargill via the Southern Scenic Route. They have these routes over here where you have the choice of driving normal boring highways to your destination or you can drive these 'Scenic Routes' which mean just that. They do take a little longer but are much more beautiful.
