Hello peoples,
On the way down to Otaogo we stopped off at Boulders Beach. These are big boulders that are millions of years old and have been formed by mud stone and the sea. They were quite impressive to see. We carried on to Trotters Gorge which was a huge gorge cut out of the cliff face and covered in trees. Then carried on to Dunedin which is a city. We drove around to find accommodation but then decided not to stay here and stay just outside it in Otaogo which is far nicer. The motel we chose is lovely with a great private top floor view of the Peninsula and decided to stay 2 nights. After dumping the bags off in the room, we went for a drive up to Larnache Castle. The only castle in NZ. It was very nice and had a look inside as well. Some of the rooms felt very cold and as if something else was there with you! Went up the turret and had an amazing view looking over the rolling hills. It's all very much like the Lake District here, the one back home. It's so beautiful everywhere and are loving it here.
The following day we went to Seal Bay. It was about half an hour walk down to the beach with some very steep sand dunes. A massive beach though and and we saw 3 sea lions basking in the sun. It was really cool. We saw a really old Lime Kiln just on the side of the road. Then we went for a really nice drive to find a nice picnic stop on the top of one of the hills.
Later on that day we went into Dunedin to have a look around but mainly to drive up the worlds steepest street called Baldwin Street. It's 1 in 2.16 and our little car made it up with no problems although we had to 1st gear the last 10ft. We even got a certificate to prove it :o) We then watched an old campervan attempt it but didn't get even a quarter of the way, it's that steep!
Thats it for now, love Gemma, Darren and George xxx xxx xxx
