Hello everybody,

We are now in Twizel which is the closest town to Mt Cook at 80km away. The journey to Twizel was amazing. We stopped at Lake Teakpo which was huge. It had the cutiest church there and it was all like a picture postcard. The lake had a amazing turquoise colour to it due to the limestone underneath reacting with the water. We couldn't see Mt Cook from here as it was covered in cloud. We then stopped at another lake called Lake Pukaki and again it was beautiful colours and just breath taking with all the mountains in the distance.

Once we hit Twizel we checked into a motel and drove up to Mt Cook which is an 80km drive straight up to it where the road just stops at the foot of the mountain. We could just about make out the base of the mountain which had a lot of snow on it. But due to all the cloud, which was not going to lift, we could not see the top. We had lunch up there which was nice. We hung around for a while and decided to possibly come back tomorrow. On the way back down we stopped at various places to take photos. The wind was strong and blew George right out of the car, it was awful but we caught him!
