Test Run
Our last week in Chipping Campden had a few more interesting excursions to fill our days. In need of a small shoe repair (wearing out the stitching with all this walking) we discovered the quaintly named Blockley Cobbler situated in a semi industrial area nearby. The place is called Northwick Business Park & is a former field hospital & Polish refugee camp from the Second World War. There are many Nissen huts & old sheds converted to an assortment of activities including several shoe makers, car restorations & stone mason - a very interesting place. Had a wander around the Main Street of Moreton in Marsh & lunch stop in the courtyard of the White Hart Royal pub, recommended by Anne who stayed there last year. Found some beautiful art in one store & admired the many gorgeous hanging baskets outside shops & pubs - they are quite stunning & I'll try to replicate the look next summer. Returned via Batsford village which is tiny & has a lovely church, roses, walls etc. Another visit to a stately home & garden to see Sezincote, a unique Indian styled house with beautiful gardens. Toured some rooms of the house & had afternoon tea in the conservatory verandah plus the fun of a swing in a tree - back to childhood! Had a great walk close to home through fields of wheat & an enormous crop of field beans almost as tall as me! Geoff had run this way the day before & got lost for a while in the shrubbery before being given the right directions by a farmer in Broad Campden. It was quite fun to follow the narrow trail not knowing just where you'd emerge & to realise that there are tracks like this all over England where walkers have a 'right of way' through farmer's land.
