Test Run
After an early morning walk up Dovers Hill for the view across the fields we took the advice of some locals and we went to find the Rollright Stones near Long Compton. Nothing to do with the Rolling Stones, though they are old & craggy! They don't compare to Stonehenge but they are a Neolithic ceremonial stone circle known as the King's Men plus a single King Stone. To find this ancient place just off the road with virtually no-one else there was great & as I have a "thing" about stones I really liked it. Geoff made lots of jokes about dancing around the stones but we didn't see any Druids or Oddfellows - the summer solstice was over a week ago! To the Snowshill Lavender Farm for lunch including lavender shortbread then walked among the purple patch in fields of lavender. This was quite lovely & included a large area of wildflowers which aims to attract the bees & butterflies. It's not quite Provence but certainly is very pretty. Found the crafts in the Old Mill & the silversmith's workshop was just like dad's - messy but wonderful old tools & great skills - loved it.
