Test Run
Did quite a bit of walking around this small & neat city searching for affordable souvenirs. Most things in Iceland are extremely expensive eg. Silk scarf $250, so needless to say we didn't buy much! Did have a look around the magnificent Hallgrimskirkja Church which dominates the city from it's high point. It has a magnificent organ which matches the shape of the arched windows & interior roof. Had one of those lovely travel bonuses when we walked past the library to find a photographic exhibition by local icon Ragnar Axelsson. Some of his work was on display plus a film of his story over many years as a photojournalist for the local newspaper. He has focused on the local people of Iceland & Greenland & his pictures are mostly black & white. It's surprising how much depth this shows in the mostly white landscape of snow & ice. Had a burger in the bar watching the World Cup final on the big screen of our hotel - Hilton Nordica. Congratulations to Germany for their win.
