Test Run
After a short look in Hofn where we found the perfect golf location we left glacier country & wound north through some of the eastern fjords. The main highway around Iceland follows the coast in many places & here was just on the edge between mountains & sea making for some fantastic scenery. The sea was perfectly calm with no waves & the land so lush & green with waterfalls coming off the mountains & little red & white farms dotted about. It was such a pretty change of scenery. We had lunch in a cafe where we had the "skinku + osti" and a piece of "turtusneid" - this is a challenging language - just as well everyone speaks English. Our stays each night are in country hotels which are much like a motel with breakfast included. Each one has also had dinner available ranging from a la carte to buffet to set menu. They have all been good - some even excellent. The food here is expensive but the fish is wonderful so we're happy with that. There is even Australian wine in some places - expensive too but a nice surprise! KR4400 is about $44 Australian. Another big plus has been free wifi in every hotel, even in the middle of nowhere - beats Australia hands down.
