Test Run
Early flight from Manchester to Reykjavik on Easyjet - not too bad for a low budget airline & made all the better for sitting next to a photographer - Thorsten Henn, who showed us some of his work & gave us some good advice about what to see. Met at the airport & driven to our Hotel - Hilton Nordica with a room with a view on the 7th floor. Caught a bus downtown & wandered around this capital city with 60% of the population of Iceland which is 322,000 - smaller than Canberra! The city feel more like a town or suburb with no high-rise & the central area surrounded by suburbia. The houses are frequently built from what looks like corrugated iron painted many colors. There are the remnants of a Viking longhouse which was discovered under the city & excavated. It is believed to have been built around 871 - too old to comprehend! Visited Laugarspa for a sauna & spa experience - hot, hotter & hottest saunas, cold plunge tub & bubbling spa all in the semi-dark. Very interesting......
