Saturday 18th- we left Peterborough in better conditions than we arrived; sunny and dry, but still cold! After a morning scoot at the local skate park to burn off some energy we drove on to Quorn in the Finders Ranges, another quaint, neat, gorgeous old town. On the way we passed thru a small town called Wilmington that boasted a "huge red-gum tree"! Indeed it was, with a circumference of almost 11 metres it was the fattest tree I've ever seen!
We decided to set up camp in a beautiful area a short drive out of Quorn in Warren Gorge. An absolutely stunning spot. It was heaven for the boys as they got their fill of exploring, climbing and rock hopping. A fire and marshmallows wrapped up the day perfectly.
Sunday 19th, we woke to a sunny sky but FREEZING wind! We headed back into Quorn to go for a day trip on an old steam train on the Pichi Richi railway! It was brilliant, what magnificent machines they are. Lachie, of course, was in heaven! He loved the whistle and all the noises of the train. The other boys loved it too, especially because they could actually travel with their heads out the window most of the time! Along the track there was a part through a cutting that exposed 200 million year old rock. It was formed in a honeycomb pattern from an inland tidal sea, absolutely amazing. Another night camped at Warren Gorge but unfortunately still too cold and windy for a fire; although it didn't stop the big boys from going down to the creek to catch some yabbies by hand and torchlight! Also a perfect night for a lamb roast, a beautiful red wine and a good book to read under a blankie!!
Monday 20th- Maybe it was the red wine or the extremely cold morning or both but we slept in and then laid in for ages. Lovely. After a hearty bacon and egg breakie we set off on a 5km walk around Warren Gorge. It was a beautiful, relatively easy walk, with a fabulous and rewarding view at the top. Top marks to little Lachie who walked the entire track without complaint! After sitting around the fire for the afternoon the big boys went off again once it was dark to get more yabbies to make a good dinner!
Leaving here tomorrow.

Crespy Good stuff! Might be cold over there, but it's gotta be better than the hand we're getting dealt at the moment. Yabbies, yum!
Nannette Wow that sounds fabulous. The train ride would have been such fun for Lachie...and Jack and Will too! Stay warm and keep on enjoying! Poppy missed his cooking partner at breakfast yesterday morning - it was omelette day!! No one to pick up the bits of cheese that fell ontp the cutting board :( xx
Nana & Poppy Tez You have certainly put the Flinders Ranges on our "To Do" list. It looks beautiful....but we will try to avoid the old snap!! I can just imagine the fun those lucky little (and big) boys are having!! I am glad you are enjoying some quiet moments Megs!!
