After leaving Quorn we headed north to Rawnsley Park Station on the south side of Wilpena Pound. The scenery was stunning with loads of bush walks and 4WD tracks. We did one bush walk and watched the sun set on the walls of the pound. The following day, Wednesday, we did a driving tour of the area, taking in the sights. On a short walk to 'Sacred Canyon' we saw some ancient aboriginal carvings in the rocks meaning waterhole, windbreak, emu and kangaroo. We drove on through two gorges, Bunyeroo and Brachina, crossing through the ranges, seeing some astounding scenery and ancient rock (500 million yrs old)) to the 'town' of Parachilna. Here we had lunch at the Prairie hotel which boasts "feral food"! Emu, camel, roo and goat grace the menu! The food however, was far from feral! It was fantastic food. Ben and I shared an antipasto platter of smoked and slated meats, camel and kangaroo, emu pate, goats cheese and bush tomato relish. Jack enjoyed a camel burger which he claims was the best burger ever! I also have to say I had the BEST wedges I've ever eaten in my life! Leaving Parachilna full and happy we drove back across the ranges through Parachilna Gorge to an old copper mining town, Blinman, for a look around and an icecream.
