Friday morning we packed up and headed to Leigh Creek, an open cut coal mining town, to stock up on food, fuel and water. We then kept on to Marree, stopping along the way to view some ochre pits and the ruins of an old railway town, Farina. We stopped for the night at Marree where we enjoyed the company of other travellers and a good meal at the gorgeous local pub. Thursday morning we packed up and drove into the Wilpena pound resort to do a walk up to the top of the pound. The walk for the most part was easy and gently sloped up through Sliding Rock gorge, the only way into the pound. At the bottom of the steep part of the walk was an old homestead and information telling of the early settlers who farmed inside the pound. After leaving Quorn we headed north to Rawnsley Park Station on the south side of Wilpena Pound. The scenery was stunning with loads of bush walks and 4WD tracks. We did one bush walk and watched the sun set on the walls of the pound. The following day, Wednesday, we did a driving tour of the area, taking in the sights. Saturday 18th- we left Peterborough in better conditions than we arrived; sunny and dry, but still cold! After a morning scoot at the local skate park to burn off some energy we drove on to Quorn in the Finders Ranges, another quaint, neat, gorgeous old town. Today we woke to more drizzly rain but we hit the town anyway! The town is an old and proud railway town boasting a steamtrain museum and some beautiful model trains at all 4 entrances to the town. We drove out to each one to check them out and take a pic!
