My Big Adventure
If I had to sum up today I would describe it as The Blue Mountains with 2 cable cars, a train ride up the side of a cliff and Australia's version of Christmas Tree Farm! So the day started as usual with breakfast although to add to the excitement this morning a cockroach decided to come and visit the kitchen!! Hmmm! So after a quick breakfast (we didn't invite the cockroach to stay) we went to wait the arrival of our coach to take us to the Blue Mountains via Featherdale Wildlife Park. The journey to Blacktown took approximately 40 minutes and on arrival we headed to Featherdale Wildlife Park which can only be described as Australia's version of Christmas tree farm but instead of having the opportunity to feed goats, sheep and cows you get to pet a koala and hand feed kangaroos!! So we headed around the wildlife park looking at all the different Australian wildlife including wallabies, kangaroos, koalas, wombats, Tasmanian devils and buzzards to name a few. While here we decided to opt in to the koala experience so we were able to get up close and personal to a koala and give him (Noah) a stroke. He was very soft and happy! From here we headed on and then hand fed the little kangaroos. After we had viewed all the wildlife we headed back to our coach and drove on to Leura where we had lunch and visited an amazing sweet shop! From here we headed to Echo Point to get a view of the 3 Sisters rock formation and the canyon below. We also got a little peak at the cable car across the cliffs which we would be going on next. After a short drive we arrived at Scenic World where we got our first cable car the scenic skyway which transported us 270 metres across the Jamison Valley between the cliff tops. As I've already explained I'm not really a fan of cable cars but thankfully due to the size of this it was very smooth and at points I even dared to look down!! After a few minutes we arrived at the other side of the cliff and then we headed straight to our next cable ride the scenic cableway. This one plummeted us 545 metres into the Jamison Valley! Although we were at the front of the queue for this one I decided that I wasn't quite brave enough to stand at the front and watch but again I became quite brave by the end and was able to look up down and out the window. After we arrived safely back on the ground we took the scenic walkway through the rainforest. We didn't see much wildlife, just a couple of birds but we did see some random artwork (some of which I refer to as art in the loosest term) and some of them were really quite odd! So we walked along the boardwalk through the rainforest looking at the plants, view and canopy as we walked. From there we headed to the scenic railway where we took the train up the side of the valley at the 52 degree incline! This was my favourite of the 3 and I feel that all the cable car training will prepare me for the cable car up the side of the Rockies in June! With our tour nearly coming to the end we headed back to the coach and made our way back through the valley to Parametta where we jumped on a boat back to Circular Quay. From here we headed to dinner - yummy gnocchi and got chatting to an American couple who have spent the last month travelling the north coast of Sydney. So after our sociable dinner we headed back up the 110 steps one last time (for the time being) and headed back to our room to pack and watch the daily 30 second fireworks display from our window which happen in the Carmen on the harbour side show at 8.24 each night! Then it was off to bed before our early start and flight to Melbourne tomorrow!
