My Big Adventure
So another busy day today. We started with a walk to the Quay for breakfast where we were served croissants with a fork?! From here we caught the boat across to Taronga Zoo, seeing all the sights along the way and taking yet more photos of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge - I'm definitely not going to be short of photos of those. When we arrived at the zoo we decided to head up to the entrance via the sky ride. Now I'm not quite sure what I was thinking at this point as I hate anything cable car like and so going on a cable car up the side of a mountain swinging was not really our brightest idea! Anyway I embraced the excitement and got on the ride and everything was going well, so I decided to turn around and look behind me! This was the exact point I remembered why I didn't like cable cars. The view was amazing looking over the Opera House and the bridge but just from so high up it was a little unnerving! I then looked up and realised I wanted the ride to end quite quickly. Thankfully it did and we were back on solid ground and so we headed for the zoo entrance. We started our tour of the zoo by seeing the Koala's (I really do love them) and then a Komodo dragon and then some Australian reptiles. Don't worry I'm not going to list every animal I saw! We headed through Africa, India, the Great Ocean, the Australian Outback and the Blue Mountains. Seeing everything from possums and tawny frogmouths to elephants and giraffes. My favourites had to be the echidna, tree frogs, koalas, kangaroos and as always the giraffes. I also loved the little penguins, which after yesterday's penguin experience seemed much better. Along the way we also saw our first spider on a web by the side of one of animals! Not sure what it was but it was definitely big and scary looking! After a spot of lunch in the form of a picnic on the steps (we so know how to live) we headed back to the ferry where we got a free ride to the harbour. From here we bought our first and definitely not last ice cream of the trip and headed back onto the boat to have a tour of the harbour and see Watson Bay, Manly Beach, Green Island, Fort Denison and Darling Harbour and we got to go under the harbour bridge! Which I found very exciting! Still not brave enough to go over it though!! After our tour around we headed to Rossini's for dinner (pasta in case you were wondering) and then just as we were leaving I bumped into an old family that I taught in Keston (it's a small world). We then took the short walk back to our hostel up all the steps. After a little shower and relax we headed up to the roof terrace to await the fireworks over the Opera House (another photo opportunity!). While waiting for the fireworks we had our next spider encounter this time a huntsman spider running along the edge of the wall! It looked even more mean and scary and also a little hairy! So the spider kept us all entertained for a while (it wasn't a fan of having it's photo taken!) and then the fireworks began. Apparently every Saturday night they have a fireworks display somewhere in Sydney and we were lucky enough that today's was over the Opera House so we could watch it from our roof terrace! They were pretty amazing and looked even better when you consider the surroundings. The fireworks lasted around 20 minutes and then we headed back to our room to catch some zzzzz before our next adventure tomorrow.
