My Big Adventure
So a proper early start this morning as we got up at 5 and headed to the airport for our flight to Melbourne. The transfer and check in went very smoothly but unfortunately the flight was delayed due to the fog at Melbourne. So after some breakfast we waited around for our flight to take off. The flight was just over an hour and was relatively smooth and we could see the land and mountains the whole time we were in the air. When we arrived at the airport we collected our luggage and then got the Skybus to the city and then walked down to our hostel! Unfortunately our room is not as nice as our room in Sydney and is a little bit more basic!! (If that is possible). And finding a pair of ear plugs in the bedside drawer didn't fill us with much hope of any sleep tonight! However this didn't stop us and we dropped off our luggage and headed out to explore the city. As we left our hostel we jumped on a free tram and started our tour. We headed further into the north of the city right into the centre and then jumped off to get some lunch. We then got another tram and went off to explore the Botanic Gardens. I did love the gardens, lots of different plants and bird life. We strolled through the Gardens and then tried to walk to the Olympic stadium but unfortunately the bridge was closed and we were unable to cross the river. After the gardens we headed to the catch the tram. Unfortunately (clearly my favourite word of the day) we didn't quite get to grips with the tram map - if you think the tubes are confusing then don't even bother with the trams in Melbourne! Basically we got our libraries confused and we're actually in a totally different place to where we thought we are. So we went past our hostel and totally missed where we needed to be. So after talking to a number of lovely people and catching another couple of trams, we found our way back to the hostel. Upon arrival we had a quick drink before heading up to the room to prepare for tomorrow and hopefully recover from our early morning. So far as you may be able to tell I haven't fallen in love with Melbourne in the same way I did with Sydney. I am however keeping an open mind and will see what tomorrow brings!
