Geoff, Jade & Goody's Eurotrip
I am writing this from Venice which we have one more night. Venice has been really such a beautiful city full of canals, bridges and such old buildings. We are staying a camping groung about 20 mins from Venice but its great, its own resturant, supermarket, bar and even a pool, thats right, we finally have warm weather and a pool is on site!!!!. But its like being at a caravan park on the Gold Coast. Instead of talking to people and asking where they are from, you only have to ask where in Australia are you from!
We spent our first afternoon walking through the small, narrow streets getting losted which is not hard to do at all. We were just in awe with such a beautiful place. We headed out for pizza, pasta and red wine in Venice on our first night and thats about all we have eaten since we have been here!
We spent the following day walking around once more. There are no streets in Venice only paths, so there are no cars, trucks or motorbikes, i guess thats one of the things that makes it such a beautiful city and can be very peaceful of the main streets. We checked out the main square with old spectacular buildings surrounding it and pigeons everywhere (the square from the movie Italian Job).
The only form of transportation around Venice is by boat through the canals, even the bus in Venice is a boat! Jade, Jenny and myself took in a tour in the afternoon and even though it was very expensive (40 euros) for 2 hours, it was very interesting. It did included a Gondola ride which was terrific and definately would have to recomend doing when in Venice. Seeing Venice by Gondola is an experience in itself! Going through canals that are about 2m wide was great and i must say the driver did quiet well only hiting the wall once or twice. We also got to see one of the first building built in Venice and famous paintings by Donatello in a spectular church.
Today was a relaxing day by the pool having a well earned break from being on the go and making use of the terrfic weather. We were devasted when we arrived and it was raining! (Italy raining in the middle of August!)
We are off to Milan tomorrow, then to Nice for 4 nights, hoping to see Monaco and Cannes in that time.
If you have made it this far and are still reading you have done very well.
Sorry about the long update but it shows how much we have covered in about 2 weeks!
